 ARTIST'S STATEMENT

For about 20 years most of my paintings incorporated hard edge geometric shapes within a more atmospheric background, in order to create a different planal surface and spatial tension and I have, basically used a particular range of colors for the same period of time. It wasn't until the late eighties that my palette began to evolve and a more painterly surface began to appear, which then led me to a period of intensely active brushwork with a more obvious landscape theme, and a warmer palette. My more current work takes the active energy of the previous period, subdues it and creates a more playful & lyrical painting while now incorporating soft-edge geometric forms, lines and circles. In the end, what defines all of my artwork over the past 42 years is my love affair with light. I feel that without light, there would be no color, no sense of space and no mystery of life. What moves me is simply light and color, and the profound beauty of the landscape.
